GRAPHIC DESIGN + CREATIVE DIRECTION
Digital Design
I fell in love with digital art & design after taking Digital Art and Print Based Media classes in college. These classes were my first exposure to color theory, typography, and aspect ratio among other things. The ability to use aesthetics to send a particular message and alter perceptions of reality has been my greatest takeaway.
Check out some of my favorite projects below!
Medium(s): Adobe Photoshop + Adobe Illustrator
Method: Through a case study into Josef Albers’ Homage to the Square (1959) project, I became familiar with color theory and the ability for certain colors next to other colors to change the entire meaning of a piece. The two designs above contain the same four colors in different proportions to one another, which produced two vastly different moods. Learning about color proportionality and its effect on human perceptions of reality was central to my understanding of design overall.
Tools: Duotone, Transparency, Masking, Composition theory
Medium(s): Adobe Fresco
Method: I used the watercolor and oil paint brushes in Adobe Fresco to create this Surrealist inspired abstract illustration.
Medium(s): Adobe Fresco
Method: Using my knowledge of color theory, composition texture, and abstract design, I continually play around digital paintbrushes to create illustrations.
Tools: watercolor and oil paint brushes, masking and layering.
Medium(s): Adobe Photoshop
Method: The Thinker was my first project ever using the pen tool and masking in Adobe Photoshop. I decided to model the magazine’s pop color aesthetic off of an actual vintage Life magazine cover I found. My pen tool skills have advanced since this time, but today I value the color and composition I chose to create a vintage effect.
Medium(s): Adobe Illustrator + Adobe Photoshop
Method: Using the blob brush tool in Adobe Illustrator and the pen tool + layer masking in Adobe Photoshop, I created this stained glass piece for window installation in the Boston College Artist showroom in the Spring of 2019 (see below!).
